These Formula 1 Records Could Be Broken This Year

Current Record: 19, Max Verstappen

Last year, Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen dominated Formula 1 with his RB19, taking a whopping 19 out of a possible 23 race wins. In the process, he set a new record for the highest number of race wins in a single season.

This year, however, Formula 1 has one extra race on the calendar, meaning that Verstappen has another crack at the record. With a dramatic overhaul to its dominant racer, could Red Bull be charging towards a clean sweep of victories in 2024?

Current Record: 633, Lando Norris

One record that the holder might not like to break is that for the most F1 points without a win in the sport. Currently held by McLaren racer Lando Norris, who is sitting pretty on 633 world championship points without a win, there’s a good chance his hold on the record will be extended this year.

However, McLaren is looking promising this year with its upgraded MCL38 racer, so perhaps we could see Norris take to the top step of the podium one weekend this year.

Current Record: 10, Max Verstappen

Triple world champion Max Verstappen currently has another record to his name that could be broken this year, and that’s the crown for the most successive wins in F1. After claiming 10 back-to-back victories starting at last year’s Miami Grand Prix, the Dutchman could easily break this in 2024.

As the Red Bull racer has so far won every race since last year’s Japanese Grand Prix, he only needs to win the first three races of the 2024 season to break this record. Could it be the first on this list to topple in 2024?

Current Record: 163, Kevin Magnussen

Another record that its current holder may want to quickly put an end to is the record for the most race starts without ever leading a lap in F1. That rather unfortunate crown is currently held by Haas racer Kevin Magnussen.

The Danish driver had his first start at the 2014 Australian Grand Prix, which he raced in for McLaren. Interestingly, in that race he set a record for the most points scored on debut, when he notched up 18 for his second-place finish.

Current Record: 19, Michael Schumacher

A more positive record that drivers will be working to beat this year is that for the most consecutive podium finishes in F1. Currently, it’s held by Michael Schumacher with 19, but Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen are snapping at his heels with 16, 15 and 15 top-three finishes respectively.

With Verstappen sure to have another dominant car this year, he could best his own tally and topple Schumacher at the top. The Dutchman is sitting pretty on seven consecutive podium finishes, so if he ends the first half of the 2024 season on the podium at every race he could tie Schumacher’s record.

Current Record: 103, Lewis Hamilton

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamiton could break his own record for the highest tally of F1 wins in his final season with the Silver Arrows. After two win-less years in the sport, the British racer will be looking to end that drought in 2024.

Hamilton’s tally of 103 race victories so far in Formula 1 isn’t under threat from anyone else on the current grid. His closest rival is Michael Schumacher, who has 91 victories under his belt, while the nearest driver on the current grid is Max Verstappen, who is currently sitting in third place with 54 race wins.

Current Record: 8, Ayrton Senna

With more races taking place in the 2024 season than ever before, that gives the current grid even more chances to break this record, set by Ayrton Senna between 1988 and 1989. Once again, Max Verstappen is obviously the closest to clinching this record, as he’s started the final race of 2023 on pole.

However, with the field looking to be much closer in 2023 could we see another driver fight Verstappen for this record? We’ll have to wait and see what the coming 24 races bring!

Current Record: 15 years, 6 months and 28 days, Kimi Raikkonen

There are a few veterans on the Formula 1 grid who could be in with a chance of claiming this record in 2024, chief among them is Aston Martin racer Fernando Alonso. The Spanish driver’s first win in F1 came way back in 2003 when he triumphed in the Hungarian Grand Prix for Renault. As it stands, his last win came more than nine years later, but there’s plenty of time for him to top that figure.

If the 42-year-old racer wins a grand prix in 2024, it’ll come more than 20 years after his first win, easily smashing the record set by Raikkonen. What do you think, can Alonso claim this title once and for all?

Current Record: 68, Rubens Barrichello

A record that could get broken in 2024, albeit one that would require a few wild races, is this one held by Rubens Barrichello. After finishing on the podim 68 times, the Brazilian racer holds the record for the most F1 podium finishes without winning the Word Drivers’ Championship. In second place is Valtteri Bottas.

The Finnish driver has racked up an impressive tally of podiums, hitting 67 through his stints with Mercedes and Williams. Now, if he can muster up just a couple more this year with the newly-named Stake F1 Team, he could set a new F1 record. Come on Valtteri, I believe in you.

Current Record: 48, Lewis Hamilton

Another record that’s currently held by seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton is the crown for the most consecutive points finishes in F1, after he finished in the top ten at every race between the 2018 British Grand Prix and the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix. However, that record is now under threat from Red Bull Ace Max Verstappen.

So far, the Dutch driver has finished in the points at every race since the 2022 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, meaning he has scored points at 41 consecutive F1 races. If he can finish inside the top 10 at every race between now and the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, he’ll set a new record for 49 consecutive points finishes in F1.
