Formula Drift Returns To Irwindale Speedway, The Track That Refuses To Die

For years now, SoCal’s Irwindale Speedway has been stuck in a loop of closing then not closing then closing and not closing again. But now that we know Irwindale won’t get bulldozed for a crappy shopping mall, Formula Drift will return to where it all began in America with FD’s first North American exhibition race 15 years ago.

The Final Round for the Pro and Pro2 classes was initially moved to Las Vegas this year after Irwindale Speedway management announced that the track would be closing. But then Irwindale reemerged un-bulldozed, under new management, so the series moved fast to rebook that final round at the track where it belongs.

We’re certainly grateful Irwindale is sticking around for a while. It’s one of the only tracks left that’s that close to Los Angeles.

Formula Drift signed a three-year deal to keep racing at Irwindale, with Thursday Night Drift sessions for amateurs looking to practice and a Pro-Am series also returning to the track. It’s safe to say that Irwindale will be here for the foreseeable future.
