Nick Tandy won Le Mans earlier this year in a Porsche prototype, which makes sense because prototype cars win these races. Nick Tandy just won a rainy Petit Le Mans in a Porsche 911 GT car. That’s not supposed to happen. In fact, it’s the first time it’s ever happened.

While it’s not the first time a GT car has won a race like this, it is the first time this has happened at Petit Le Mans according to many sources. It’s also the first time in a while that a race like this has been won by a GT class car since the prototype cars muscled their way to the front of the pack years ago.

The big caveat here is that it was so rainy all day that the race was called two hours early when the rain wouldn’t stop and the jet driers couldn’t do enough to make the track safe.

That rain let the door open for the GTLM cars to sneak through, with the 911 RSR driven by Patrick Pilet and Tandy up front followed by the GTLM BMW Z4 GTE by John Edwards and Jens Klingman.

Other stuff happened, but for now let’s all enjoy how weird it is for a GT car to win here.
