With the 997-generation Porsche 911 winding down, a celebratory finale is necessary. Rumor has it an ultimate, limited-edition Porsche 911 GT3 RS is planned. Only 500 copies, 500-hp and somewhere near the 500th 997 variant.

It's just a filthy, unsubstantiated internet rumor right now, but it sure has the whiff of reality about it. According to an initial claim from Teamspeed forum member "AlexG," and confirmed by several others on a "trust me" basis, Porsche is planning a send-off for the 997 in the form of a limited run of 911 GT3 RS cars powered by a 500-hp, 4.0-liter flat six similar to the Porsche 911 RSR engine. That's a whopping 65-hp over the current 911 GT3 RS. Given Porsche's penchant for releasing a limited-edition car every other week, this one sounds very likely. [Teamspeed]
