A week after Volkswagen told dealers to stop selling some of its most popular cars in the U.S., the company is now recalling more than 26,000 vehicles because of a risk they could catch on fire.

Jalopnik first reported Volkswagen issued a stop sale April 8 on Jettas, Passats and Beetles with the new 1.8-liter turbo four engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. According to the NHTSA:

In the affected vehicles, the O-ring seals between the oil cooler and the transmission may leak fluid.

The leaking transmission fluid could contact a hot surface and result in a vehicle fire.

So far there has been no word on fires or injuries in connection with the problem, or when dealers will be able to start selling these cars again.
